'The Introduction to this book is worth the price of the whole book as its prose is as eloquent as poetry. This book ... has preserved a wonderful work written by a Scottish gentleman and scholar. Mr. Ker knew a great deal of church history and the history of sacred music. He jolts us by often referring to the sung psalm, not the read psalm as most people today come to know the psalms. He discussion of each psalm gives an interesting historical (often Scottish) background to each, far different from any other commentary I have read. He has a section at the end of the book quoting famous church and historical figures' assessment of the value of the psalms. And he has a section on metrical versions for the pslams. An unusual and thankfully preserved work. His most interesting comment, "every psalm is Messianic" will stay with me.' - from a review.
