This book takes the reader through five important facets of God's way of salvation by Jesus Christ. Donald Fraser does this by devoting most of the book to the words of a well-known text, "If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed" (John 8:36), and he concludes by looking at the connection between faith and Christian conduct.

Each chapter consists of a sermon preached to the congregation of Kirkhill, a rural parish on the shore of the Beauly Firth in the Scottish Highlands. The book was originally published in 1834 and is reprinted now for the first time.
