William Mason
William Mason (1719-1791) was a friend and hearer of William Romaine, who wrote a preface to this devotional. Mason became editor of the Gospel Magazine for a time; a short biography is supplied in Volume 1 (Morning Meditations). His Morning meditations for every day of the year was published in 1765, and was received so well that Evening meditations followed. Each meditation is upon a select verse of scripture, and is the length of a single page. Often a verse of poetry or a hymn is appended. There is an index to the scriptures used at the back of the book. Mason's stated aim is 'to establish the faith, promote the comfort, and influence the practice of the followers of the Lamb.'
